Kendaka Upcycles was born out of a passion for sustainability and an unwavering belief in the power of women artisans. The name "Kendaka" is historically associated with brave, strong, and wise Nubian queens, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the talented women behind the beautiful upcycled products.
In March 2023, Alex Apparels took a significant step toward sustainability by partnering with Kendaka Upcycles. Through this collaboration, we redirected 6 tons of textile offcuts, including fabric waste, accessories, and old fabric patterns, to Kendaka’s artisan collective.
These offcuts are skillfully transformed by 32 empowered women working from their homes. Their craftsmanship has turned what was once waste into stunning crochet baskets, giving the materials a second life while providing these women with meaningful employment.
The women artisans at Kendaka Upcycles are the cornerstone of this initiative. Rooted within their communities, they personify the strength and wisdom that the name 'Kendaka' represents.
This partnership aligns perfectly with Kendaka’s mission of empowering women and fostering economic independence through creativity and sustainable practices.
